Anti-Poverty Rallies

As part of Citizen Participation, women take part in rallies advocating for changes in policies that affect their lives.  In September 2007, WMF joined the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (OCAP) and other community groups in a March Against Poverty.  With hand-made signs addressing a vareity of poverty reduction strategies, women marched down Yonge Street, convening with hundreds of protesters at Queen's Park.  Some of the issues women advocated for included a working minimum wage, more affordable housing, higher welfare rates and lower tuition fees.

WMF was out in force again in March 2009 as they joined the Raise the Rates rally at Nathan Phillips Square.  The rally raised awareness about welfare rates in Ontario, and women advocated with OCAP and other community organizations for an increase in rates and benefits for Ontario Works Recipients.
